"HAUNTS BEFORE VEGAS" is a documentary by GROSSFILM founders John Gross and Jason Shepard. The film chronicles the small, isolated towns of Tonopah, Nevada, Death Valley Junction, California, and Primm, Nevada. The film dives deep into the history of these towns along with the paranormal activity that has been reported throughout the years. The film includes audio and visual paranormal evidence at each location, along with interviews with locals who have their own stories to tell!
John Gross and Jason Shepard have traveled to Las Vegas from Los Angeles for many years on vacations and have stumbled upon these magical towns on their road trips. Along with fellow paranormal investigator, Aaron Kelly, the trio of investigators uncover the truth that, "YES-- the paranormal exists within these towns and we have proof of it!"
"HAUNTS BEFORE VEGAS" began filming Thanksgiving weekend of 2017 in Tonopah, Nevada. The production continued on March 15th, 2018 in Primm, Nevada for 3 days. The Primm shoot got exteriors of the casinos, desert landscapes, interior shots, and multiple EVP sessions were filmed. The production continued to Death Valley Junction, California in August of 2018. Filming took place at the famously haunted Amargosa Hotel and Opera House.
Filming concluded in 2019, with trips back to Primm, Nevada, Death Valley Junction, California, and Tonopah, Nevada. In Tonopah, filming concluded with visits to two famously haunted hotels: The Mizpah and The Clown Motel. Principal photography wrapped Thanksgiving weekend.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, additional filming took place to cover the events happening in the world, and more paranormal investigations were conducted. The team returned to Tonopah, Nevada, and did additional filming during the months of August and November 2020.
Upon completion of the rough cut of the film, Associate Producer and Amargosa Hotel Board President Fred Conboy granted permission to film in Spooky Hollow, the abandoned portion of the hotel. Spooky Hollow hasn't been featured in television/film in over 10 years, so filming there was an amazing grab for the final film. The last portion of filming took place in February of 2023.
The film continued post-production up until November 2024 and is set for release in 2025.
